Mosquito Control is an important service that is gaining more popularity in NJ. It is critical to hire a reputable company, such as Custom Landscaping and Lawn Care, to properly manage the mosquitoes in your yard. The life cycle of the mosquito must be taken into account. There are 4 stages of life to the mosquito.
Life Cycle: 1. Eggs; 2. Larvae (wigglers); 3. Pupa (tumblers); 4. Adult
First 10 days are spent in water.
Eggs: Females lay approximately 200 eggs each time; laid one at a time, and usually deposited in clusters called “rafts” on stagnant water or in areas that flood regularly; hatch into larvae within 48 hours.
Larvae: lives in water and comes to the surface to breathe. Hang upside down from the water; feed on microorganisms and organic matter in water; Shed their skins four times and during the fourth molt become a pupa
Pupa: resting, non-feeding stage transitioning into adult, lasting about 2 days
Adult: upon emerging from the pupal skin, rests on the surface of the water, drying off and letting the body parts harden; wings have to spread out and dry properly before it can fly; mating and blood feeding occur after a couple of days
